The Arthus Phenomenon Local Anaphylactic Inflammation in the Rabbit Brain

چکیده
The brain as a functional unit in the production of generalized anaphylaxls has been extensively studied, notably by Besredka (1). As the seat of a local allergic reaction, however, it has apparently not yet been examined. Since the local anaphylactic reaction in the skin and in various organs (2) consists of edema, hemorrhage, and leucocytic infiltration, it appeared likely that the nervous tissue, which is so susceptible to the above mentioned pathological changes from a great variety of causes, would lend itself particularly well to the production of anaphylactic lesions. In the present paper we have attempted to demonstrate the occurrence of local anaphylaxis in the brain of the rabbit.

Anaphylactic Shock Caused by Antibody in Animals Sensitized by Antigen—reversed Passive Anaphylaxis
Anaphylactic shock occurs (in rabbits) when the usual procedure for the production of passive anaphylaxis is reversed; that is, when an animal previously treated with antigen receives the corresponding antiserum by way of the circulating blood. This susceptibility to the action of anti-horse serum produced by injection of antigen reaches maximum intensity after an interval of 4 hours presumably...
متن کاملSome Effects of Proteolytic Inhibitors on Tissue Injury and Systemic Anaphylaxis
A study was made of the development of various forms of local and systemic injury in animals treated with inhibitors of proteolytic activity. The agents used were tosylarginine methyl ester (TAME), epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA), and soybean trypsin inhibitor (SBTI). 1. Hemorrhagic necrosis in the skin of the rabbit following intradermal epinephrine in combination with bacterial endotoxin (ei...

An intense inflammatory reaction in the pericardium, heart, and intrapericardial aorta can regularly be produced in a sensitized rabbit by the intrapericardial injection of the homologous antigen.
متن کاملGrading of Local Skin Reactivity to Bacterial Filtrates
In this paper there are described methods for grading the local skin reactivity induced by bacterial filtrates. The grading is accomplished by titration of the skin-preparatory factors; and by studies on the duration of ensuing reactivity. It was found that the duration of reactivity depends upon the mode of preparation of filtrates and the microorganisms employed. Thus, it lasts for 96 hours w...
متن کاملThe Effect of Egg Yolk in Diets on Anaphylactic Arthritis (passive Arthus Phenomenon) in the Guinea Pig
WHOLE EGG YOLK INCORPORATED AS A SUPPLEMENT IN THE DIET OF BABY GUINEA PIGS AFFORDED PROTECTION AGAINST ANAPHYLACTIC ARTHRITIS AS DETERMINED: (a) by measurement of joint swelling; (b) by the rise in serum level of some substance which reacts with diphenylamine; (c) by histologic examination. The active material in egg yolk was shown to be in the alcohol-soluble fraction. Attempts to identify th...
